Summary

A profession that sets threads as warp and weft, operates a loom, and manufactures fabric.

Description

Weavers cross warp yarns (tateito) and weft yarns (yokoito) by hand or using machines to produce fabric. They thread hand looms or automatic looms, adjust tension and weave density, and weave the fabric. The produced fabric is subjected to quality inspection to check for weave irregularities, thread fraying, and other defects. It encompasses a wide range of materials and applications from traditional crafts to industrial textiles, requiring knowledge of machine maintenance and weaving design.

Future Outlook

Due to the overseas relocation of domestic industries, demand for general-purpose weavers is on a declining trend, but weaving techniques for high-performance materials and traditional crafts are still in demand.
