Summary

A craftsman who finishes the interior walls of buildings using wallpaper, vinyl wallcoverings, etc. Handles everything consistently from substrate preparation to pasting, pattern matching, and trimming.

Description

The wallcovering installer (wall covering) is a specialist who applies wallpaper, vinyl wallcoverings, and decorative films to interior walls of buildings such as residential homes and commercial facilities to finish them. First, smooth out wall surface irregularities using putty or sanding, and mix and apply adhesive. Next, accurately measure and cut the material, paste it while aligning patterns, and press joints and edges tightly with a roller or squeegee. For finishing, trim excess material, process edges, and apply caulking to ensure aesthetics and durability.

Work is performed at new construction or renovation sites, collaborating as a team with other trades (carpenters, painters, electricians, etc.). As it is primarily manual labor, advanced technical skills and concentration are required, along with attention to temperature and humidity control, safety, and hygiene. There is also much work at heights or in confined spaces, making physical strength and balance sense essential.

Future Outlook

Demand for residential renovations due to an aging population and interior updates in commercial facilities continues, and the shortage of wallcovering installer technicians is becoming severe. Stable demand is expected going forward, with demand for skills in high-end renovations and installation of functional wall materials.
