Summary

A profession that deposits or sputters metals or alloys in vacuum to form thin films on substrates. Mainly involves forming metal films for decoration or functional enhancement.

Description

Vacuum plating workers are specialists who use vacuum deposition equipment or sputtering equipment to form metal thin films on substrates. First, they perform substrate pretreatment such as cleaning or acid pickling and set it in the vacuum chamber. They heat or ionize the metal as the deposition source and form a uniform film on the substrate surface through vaporization or sputtering. They monitor film thickness and deposition rate with measurement devices to ensure quality. After deposition, they perform peel and adhesion tests, reprocess defective areas, and conduct equipment maintenance. In production lines, safety management and cleanroom rule compliance are required.

Future Outlook

Demand for thin film technology remains steady in various fields such as electronic components, automobiles, and optical thin films. Advances in automation and labor reduction, along with adaptation to next-generation materials, are required, increasing the value of personnel skilled in process development and quality control.
