Classification

Summary

This occupation involves assembling transmissions, the gear-shifting mechanisms in automobiles, from component parts to ensure specified quality and performance.

Description

Transmission assemblers are specialists who assemble the main components of an automobile's transmission. Workers check drawings and assembly instructions for each process, assembling gears, shafts, bearings, seals, etc., to specified torque values and positional accuracy using torque wrenches and tools. Work is performed on production lines or in cell production systems. Setup changes and jig preparations are also carried out to accommodate diverse small-lot production. After assembly, measuring instruments are used to inspect dimensions, torque, and wear conditions to prevent defective products. Participation in process improvement (Kaizen) activities and 5S is required for quality improvement and enhanced work efficiency.

Future Outlook

As automotive electrification and multi-staging progress, transmission technology is diversifying, and traditional assembly work is becoming more advanced. While automation and robotization advance, demand for skilled assemblers is expected to continue in prototype and small-lot production.
