Classification

Summary

Manufactures treads (contact surfaces) for automotive tires. Responsible for a series of processes including mixing raw rubber materials, molding, and vulcanization, aiming to improve quality and production efficiency as a manufacturing job.

Description

Tread workers are specialists who manufacture the treads that serve as the contact surfaces for automotive tires. They first compound and mix rubber compounds, then form them into sheets using calender machines or extrusion molding machines. Subsequently, they control temperature and pressure in press vulcanizers to chemically harden the material. They operate production line machinery, manage process parameters, inspect product appearance, dimensions, and physical properties, and prevent defects. Regular equipment inspections, simple maintenance, 5S, KYT, and other safety management practices are also important. Shift work and standing work are common, maintaining stable production while strictly adhering to quality standards.

Future Outlook

Demand for automotive tires remains stable, and with advancing introduction of new technologies for higher functionality and environmental compliance, the skills of experienced tread workers will continue to be needed. On the other hand, progress in automation and robotization may reduce the scope of simple manual tasks.
