Industry & Occupation

Engineering & Manufacturing

Classification

Summary

A tempered glass worker is a manufacturing technician who produces and inspects strengthened tempered glass through processes of heating and quenching flat glass to enhance its strength.

Description

Tempered glass workers perform the manufacturing process of uniformly heating soda-lime glass sheets to approximately 600-700°C in a heating furnace, followed by high-pressure air or water quenching to induce compressive stress on the surface and increase breaking strength. They handle equipment operation and monitoring, temperature and time management, quality checks including visual inspection, dimensional measurement, and fragment tests. Production line machine maintenance, daily inspections, and safety and health management are also part of their duties, requiring adherence to work procedures and 5S activities. In recent years, with advancing automation and robotization, knowledge of production technology and equipment maintenance is required.

Future Outlook

With increasing demand for tempered glass in construction and automotive applications, stable job openings are expected. Due to advances in automation and robotization, there may be a need to shift skills toward production technology and equipment maintenance.
