Summary

Surveying technicians use surveying instruments such as total stations and GNSS to accurately measure the shape and position of land and structures, creating data such as maps, drawings, and 3D models.

Description

Surveying technicians acquire and analyze positional and shape data that form the basis for construction, civil engineering projects, land registration, urban planning, etc., and output maps, CAD data, and 3D models. In the field, they operate total stations, GNSS receivers, laser scanners, drones, etc., to set up reference points and conduct observation points. The collected data is processed in the office through coordinate calculations, data corrections, and plotting to create reports and various drawings as surveying results. Compliance with laws such as the Surveying Act is essential, and high precision management and data reliability are required. In recent years, the introduction of CIM (Construction Information Modeling), 3D laser scanning, drone surveying, and GIS technology has advanced, making specialized IT skills and data analysis abilities increasingly important. There is a lot of outdoor work for long hours and equipment transportation, as well as frequent team collaboration and coordination with stakeholders.

Future Outlook

With infrastructure aging countermeasures, urban development, expansion of BIM/CIM utilization, and construction of autonomous driving and smart cities, the demand for high-precision surveying data is steadily increasing. Amid advances in automation using drones, 3D laser technology, and AI, the market value of highly specialized technicians is expected to further improve.
