Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
Manufacturing technician who heats and rolls steel slabs or billets to produce bar steel.
Description
Steel bar manufacturing workers heat steel slabs or billets and process them using rolling mills to produce bar steel (such as round bars and square bars) in steel mills or iron and steel factories. Main duties include heating raw materials, cutting and cleaning slabs, feeding into rolling mills, adjusting roll pressure, speed, and temperature, post-rolling cutting and sizing, finishing processes, quality inspections, and equipment maintenance. Much of the work is done in high-temperature, noisy, and vibrating environments, and shift work is common.
Future Outlook
While affected by declining domestic demand and overseas relocation, the introduction of advanced automation and labor-saving technologies is progressing, and the demand for skilled workers capable of labor-saving adaptations is expected to remain stable.
