Classification

Summary

A shot peening worker is a technician who performs surface treatment work by introducing compressive residual stress into metal parts through high-speed collision of granular media such as sand or steel balls, thereby improving the parts' fatigue strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.

Description

A shot peening worker sets parameters such as the treatment surface, media type and particle size, pressure, and distance based on drawings and specifications, and operates the equipment to irradiate shots onto metal parts. During processing, monitors nozzle and media circulation conditions, and periodically performs filter replacement and media replenishment. After processing, measures surface roughness, hardness, and residual stress distribution, records them, and manages quality. In the event of machine troubles or quality defects, analyzes causes, performs equipment maintenance, and adjusts conditions. Thoroughly manages workplace safety and health, including wearing protective gear and inspecting ventilation equipment.

Future Outlook

Stable demand is expected due to increasing needs for high durability in automobile and aircraft parts. Automation and robotization of equipment, as well as introduction of IoT for process management, will advance, requiring advanced equipment control and data analysis skills.
