Classification

Summary

A manufacturing technician who operates papermaking machines to mass-produce shoji paper, performs quality control, and adjusts machinery.

Description

Shoji paper manufacturing workers (machine papermaking) are professionals who operate continuous papermaking machines to produce base paper for shoji paper. Using pulp as raw material, they adjust the flow rate and pressure of the headbox and wire unit of the papermaking machine to control the thickness and moisture content of the sheet. The generated sheet is coated with a coater, then passed through a dryer to be finished, and processed into rolls by a winder. They also conduct quality inspections, remove defective products, perform regular machine inspections and simple maintenance, and maintain stable production while complying with safety standards.

Future Outlook

Although shoji demand is declining due to the diversification of housing styles, a certain level of stability is expected from the Japanese-style remodeling market and the need to preserve traditional culture. As production lines become more automated and labor-saving, acquiring IT skills such as machine maintenance and data analysis is expected to contribute to improving future competitiveness.
