Summary

Shipyard engineers are technicians responsible for installing, adjusting, test-running, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing ship engines and auxiliary equipment.

Description

Shipyard engineers handle a wide range of tasks from installing and adjusting marine engines, steam turbines, boilers, etc., to test runs, daily maintenance and inspections, and repairs and overhauls during failures. They use specialized knowledge and skills such as reading mechanical drawings, piping and welding techniques, torque adjustments and vibration measurements using measuring instruments to ensure quality and safety. They collaborate in teams, manage schedules, coordinate with hull structures, and are required to meet deadlines for ship launching and inspections.

Future Outlook

It depends on domestic shipbuilding industry orders, but demand for highly skilled engine technicians remains stable due to larger ships and introduction of energy-saving technologies. Acquisition of new technologies is required with the spread of hybrid propulsion and fuel cell ships.
