Classification

Summary

Technical job involving installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and electronic devices on ships.

Description

Ship electricians are specialists who install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic equipment such as generators, switchboards, electric motors, lighting, communication and navigation instruments equipped on ships. They perform wiring work based on electrical circuit diagrams and manuals, and when malfunctions occur, they identify the faulty location and respond promptly. Since work is carried out in the limited environment of a ship while complying with safety standards (such as SOLAS and classification society rules), precise work and a high sense of responsibility are required. The ability to adapt to long-term sea duty and changing weather and operational conditions is also important.

Future Outlook

With the electrification of ships and advances in energy-saving technologies, demand is expected to remain stable due to the need for expertise in next-generation electric propulsion systems and battery system maintenance.
