Ship electrical equipment design engineers design electrical equipment installed on ships, such as generators, distribution boards, control panels, communication and navigation equipment. While complying with the Ship Safety Law, IMO standards, EMC standards, etc., they perform circuit design using power load calculations and simulations, and layout design utilizing CAD/CAE. They collaborate with shipyards, equipment manufacturers, and ship owners to handle the entire process from testing and adjustments to troubleshooting. In recent years, with the introduction of battery propulsion and hybrid systems, advanced control design skills and environmentally responsive technologies are required.
