Classification

Summary

A profession that inspects products using visual checks and measuring instruments in the production process of textile products and clothing, managing quality to prevent defective products from being shipped.

Description

Shinomaki inspectors visually inspect and use dedicated measuring instruments to check the surface and fiber structure of fabric (called shinomaki) wound from the weaving machine, detecting defects such as color unevenness, yarn breaks, and weaving flaws. They record inspection results, sort good and defective products, analyze causes of defects, provide feedback to the manufacturing department, and contribute to quality improvement. They may also perform quantitative evaluations using microscopes, thickness gauges, color difference meters, etc.

Future Outlook

Although Japan's textile industry is shrinking, demand for quality control of high-value-added products remains stable. While the introduction of automated inspection technology may reduce manual inspections, there will still be demand for specialized roles strong in detailed inspections and advanced defect analysis.
