Classification

Summary

This occupation manufactures casting molds by mixing resin and sand using the shell mold process and heat-curing them. It plays a role in stably supplying high-precision casting molds.

Description

Shell molders spray resin-coated sand (coatable sand) onto a pattern (model serving as the basis for the mold), cure it in a heating furnace to create shell molds, carefully demold the shell mold from the pattern after curing, perform assembly and repairs as necessary, and supply it to the casting process. They operate mixing machines, heating furnaces, and conveyor equipment, and are also responsible for temperature control, quality inspection, and safety and health management. Since the work involves high-temperature environments and handling heavy sand, physical stamina and attention are required.

Future Outlook

Although the shell mold method has stable demand as a high-precision casting mold, skilled workers are required to have higher expertise and become fewer elite due to advances in automation and 3D printer mold technology.
