Engineering & Manufacturing

Classification

Summary

An engineer who uses PLCs and others to design and program operation sequences for factories and industrial machinery, and handles control panel design, adjustment, and trial operation.

Description

Sequence control design engineers realize operation procedures (sequences) for production lines and industrial machinery with electrical control systems. Based on requirements analysis, they select PLCs and relay circuits, and create control logic with ladder programs or structured text. They design control panels and wiring diagrams, set up HMIs (operation screens), perform on-site debugging, trial operation, and adjustment, and collaborate with mechanical designers, electrical designers, and site operators to complete the system. Their scope of work is expanding to include remote monitoring with IoT and SCADA, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Future Outlook

With the advancement of Industry 4.0 and IoT adoption, demand for advanced control systems and remote monitoring is expanding. The market value of engineers possessing security and data analysis skills is increasing.
