Summary

A profession that uses manual techniques such as shiatsu and kneading on meridians and muscles to alleviate pain, promote blood circulation, and support the maintenance and recovery of physical and mental health.

Description

Seitai Therapists (Anma) assess the condition of muscles and meridians through interviews and palpation, and perform treatments by combining manual techniques such as shiatsu, kneading, percussion, and stretching. They mainly work in osteopathic clinics, relaxation salons, and home-visit massage services, requiring appropriate pressure adjustment and technique selection based on individual symptoms. Pre- and post-treatment counseling, aftercare, and advice on improving daily life are also important. They provide safe treatments in accordance with laws after registering as nationally qualified Anma-Massage-Shiatsu Therapists.

Future Outlook

Demand is increasing due to the aging population and growing health consciousness. However, attention is needed to competition between nationally qualified practitioners and unqualified ones, as well as trends in legal regulations.
