Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
A profession that selects and adjusts raw tea leaves, blends them in the optimal ratio, and handles up to packaging.
Description
Tea blending workers procure produced tea leaves, inspect their color, aroma, and taste, then blend multiple types of tea leaves in appropriate proportions (blending) to impart characteristics to the final product. After blending, they perform finishing processes such as drying, steaming, and roasting, and operate filling and packaging machines to prepare the product in a shippable state. They are also responsible for quality control, monitoring raw material storage conditions, and simple machine maintenance, and are required to stably maintain high quality.
Future Outlook
There is steady demand for Japanese tea both domestically and internationally, and with the increase in high-quality teas emphasizing quality and health-oriented products, the role of blending technicians becomes important. While labor-saving and automation technologies are being introduced, the need for skilled workers with sensory quality judgment abilities will remain high in the future.
