Classification

Summary

A field worker who operates rock drills at underground or open-pit sites to drill holes in rock formations, supporting ore mining and tunnel excavation.

Description

Rock drill operators work in underground or open-pit sites of metal and non-metal mines, operating air drills or hydraulic rock drills to drill holes in rock. Before starting work, they select and attach drill bits, inspect and adjust the machines, and perform accurate drilling at planned positions, depths, and angles. After drilling, they implement measures to suppress dust and noise, and collaborate with blasters and excavator operators to support ore mining and tunnel advancement. This includes machine maintenance, replacement of worn parts, management of work records, and use and inspection of safety equipment. High safety awareness and basic maintenance knowledge of equipment are required.

Future Outlook

There is stable demand accompanying resource development and infrastructure construction. In recent years, the introduction of automation technology and remote operation technology has progressed, requiring more advanced skills and remote operation capabilities.
