Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
A job that processes rocks or slag melted at high temperatures into fibers to manufacture rock wool products used as insulation or sound-absorbing materials.
Description
Rock wool manufacturing workers heat basalt, steel slag, etc., to approximately 1,400°C or higher in a melting furnace and form them into fibers using wire spinning or steam blowing. Afterward, they apply a binder (adhesive), undergo a curing process, form into board or cotton-like shapes, cut to specified dimensions, and package. The products are used as insulation or sound-absorbing materials at construction sites and industrial facilities. They are responsible for a wide range of tasks, including operating manufacturing equipment, managing temperature and humidity, conducting quality inspections, and maintaining equipment.
Future Outlook
Stable demand is expected due to expanding needs for energy conservation and improved building insulation performance. On the other hand, with advancing automation technology and increasingly stringent quality standards, there will be greater demand for expertise in equipment management and quality control.
