Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
Specialized profession that assembles, adjusts, and inspects distance measuring instruments such as laser rangefinders and total stations by combining optical parts and electronic components with mechanical parts.
Description
Rangefinder assemblers manufacture rangefinder instruments by combining optical lenses, prisms, micro mechanical parts, electronic boards, etc., based on drawings and specifications. They perform precision assembly using dedicated jigs and torque drivers, conduct optical axis adjustment and fine positioning, followed by soldering and power-on testing. Afterward, they perform operational tests and accuracy inspections to confirm that the product meets the specified measurement accuracy and environmental durability. Work in clean room environments and collaboration with quality control departments are also required.
Future Outlook
With the spread of GNSS and drone surveying, some demand may decrease, but high-precision optical and mechanical assembly and adjustment skills are difficult to automate, so the need for skilled workers remains stable. Adaptability to IoT-compatible devices and smart technologies will determine future market value.
