Railway track maintainers inspect the condition of rails, sleepers, and ballast on tracks, and perform repair work as soon as distortions or damage are found. They handle rail replacement, sleeper replacement, ballast compaction, gauge and level measurements, and use specialized tools, compacting machines, rail grinders, etc. Work is done in teams, and is carried out at night or early morning according to train schedules. The work is mainly outdoors, and safety is prioritized even under harsh weather conditions.
