Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
A technical position responsible for everything from conceptual design to hardware and software development of radar systems. Designs, evaluates, and implements systems that use electromagnetic waves to detect objects, measure distances, and measure speeds.
Description
Radar design engineers develop radar systems that transmit and receive microwave-band electromagnetic waves to detect and measure the position, speed, and shape of targets. They handle RF circuit design, antenna design, digital signal processing algorithm development, implementation using FPGA or DSP, simulation with MATLAB/Simulink, performance evaluation tests, etc. They work across diverse applications such as automotive, aerospace, defense, and weather observation, handling everything from system requirements definition to hardware and software integration, testing and evaluation, and transition to mass production. Advanced knowledge of electromagnetism, electronic circuits, signal processing, and embedded software is required, and development is advanced in collaboration with project teams, test personnel, and mass production departments.
Future Outlook
Demand is expanding in fields such as autonomous driving, drones, and IoT sensors. With advances in high-performance signal processing technologies using phased arrays and AI, the expertise and market value of engineers are expected to increase further.
