Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
A profession that applies primer to the surfaces of metal products, machine parts, etc., to perform base treatment that prevents corrosion and improves adhesion of the finish paint.
Description
Primer workers are specialists who apply undercoating paint (primer) for rust prevention and improved adhesion to the surfaces of industrial products, machine parts, structures, etc. The work begins with pre-treatment such as removing old paint films, polishing, and degreasing from the surface, followed by applying and drying the primer using brushes, rollers, or spray guns. To form a safe and uniform paint film, masking, protective covering, environmental condition management (temperature and humidity), and wearing protective gear are required. After completion, drying time and film thickness are measured, quality inspection is performed, and it is handed over to the finish painting process.
Future Outlook
Demand for painting maintenance in manufacturing and infrastructure is stable, but with the spread of automation technology and high-performance paints, there is a need for efficiency improvement and higher added value in work processes, and the value of highly specialized skilled workers will be maintained.
