Prime Mover Production Engineer

げんどうきせいさんぎじゅつしゃ

Industry & Occupation

Engineering & Manufacturing

Classification

Summary

An engineer who designs and improves production processes for prime movers such as internal combustion engines and gas turbines, and establishes mass production systems.

Description

Prime mover production engineers are specialists responsible for everything from process design, equipment selection, jig design, line setup, to quality control in the manufacturing of prime movers such as internal combustion engines and gas turbines. They optimize machining processes using CAD/CAM and simulations, and promote the introduction of robots and automation equipment. They utilize statistical quality control methods (SPC, FMEA, etc.) to reduce production costs and improve yield, and when problems occur on site, they perform root cause analysis and implement improvement measures. They collaborate with R&D departments, equipment manufacturers, and procurement departments to build and maintain stable mass production systems.

Future Outlook

With the advancement of automation and digitalization, the demand for smart factories is increasing, and prime mover production engineers are required to have production innovation skills utilizing IoT and AI. Although internal combustion engine production is on a decreasing trend due to the shift to electrification, it is expected that opportunities for applying new technologies will expand.
