Classification

Summary

A research and technical position that develops plastic products through formulation design of resin materials, prototyping and evaluation, and optimization of molding processes.

Description

Plastic product development engineers are responsible for everything from polymer selection and formulation design to mold design, molding process optimization, prototyping, and physical property evaluation. They analyze material property data to meet product requirements (such as heat resistance, impact resistance, and moldability), select additives and auxiliaries, and adjust molding conditions. They handle a variety of materials including engineering plastics, general-purpose plastics, and bioplastics, and also engage in development that considers recycling and reduced environmental impact. Collaborative research in teams and coordination with manufacturing departments and mold manufacturers are important.

Future Outlook

With the expanding demand for bioplastics and recycling technologies, and strengthening environmental regulations, the importance of new materials and circular plastics development will increase. Demand for engineers in the field of high-value-added product development is expected to remain high in the future.
