Description
Pencil lead manufacturers are specialists who produce the core (a mixture of graphite and clay) that forms the center of pencils. They blend graphite powder and clay, the raw materials, in appropriate proportions and mix them uniformly using a kneading machine. After forming the mixture to the specified thickness using an extrusion molding machine, it is dried and fired at high temperature in a firing furnace. After firing, dimensions and hardness are finished using grinding and polishing machines, and quality inspection is conducted. They operate and manage the machinery and equipment on the manufacturing line, and also perform daily inspections and maintenance. Managing conditions such as blending ratios and firing temperatures is important to balance production efficiency and quality.
Future Outlook
Although pencil demand is flat to slightly declining due to the digitalization of the stationery market, the expertise of technicians is required for the development of high-value-added products and environmentally friendly materials.
