Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
A job that operates and manages plants that mass-produce nitric acid using the oxidation reaction of ammonia.
Description
Nitric acid manufacturing workers are primarily plant operators who produce nitric acid using high-temperature oxidation reactions (Ostwald process) with ammonia as the raw material and catalysts. They operate real-time process control systems (DCS) to monitor and adjust reaction conditions such as temperature, pressure, and flow rates. They also handle equipment inspections and routine maintenance for absorption towers, cooling equipment, piping systems, safety management, environmental measures, and quality analysis (concentration and impurity measurements). In addition to daily equipment maintenance, in the event of abnormalities, they perform emergency shutdown operations, investigate causes, and develop measures to prevent recurrence. Their primary mission is to ensure stable plant operation, maintain product quality, and secure safety.
Future Outlook
With the advancement of automation and digitalization in chemical plants, operator tasks are expected to become more advanced and require fewer personnel. Demand for personnel who can focus on safety management and process optimization remains stable.
