Classification

Summary

Natural gas extraction machine operators operate and monitor extraction equipment such as drilling rigs, pumps, and compressors in natural gas fields to extract gas. This is a technical occupation.

Description

Natural gas extraction machine operators work in onshore and offshore gas fields, operating and monitoring extraction equipment such as drilling rigs, pumps, and compressors to safely and efficiently extract natural gas. They routinely check pressure and flow gauges and operate valves, and if abnormalities are detected, they perform initial responses such as emergency shutdowns or activation of flare devices.

They also handle periodic inspections and maintenance based on maintenance plans, replacement of worn parts, and safety management tasks in accordance with laws and regulations. Adjusting work plans according to weather, geology, and equipment conditions, as well as collaborating and reporting with engineers and maintenance teams, is important. Offshore facilities require long-term shift work, and a high sense of safety and teamwork are essential.

Future Outlook

Demand will continue steadily due to LNG needs and maintenance of natural gas plants. However, a declining trend is expected in the medium to long term with the spread of renewable energy.
