Summary

A profession that involves cutting, bending, welding, assembling, and finishing sheet metal based on drawings in the manufacture of metal tanks.

Description

Metal tank fabricators use metal materials such as steel plates and aluminum plates to manufacture storage tanks and pressure vessels. The work begins with drawing development and material selection, shapes sheet metal using gas cutting or plasma cutting, and bends it using press brakes. Next, assembles components using arc welding, MAG welding, TIG welding, etc., finishes the weld beads, conducts dimensional inspections using vernier calipers or micrometers, and performs leak tests and hydrostatic tests. Furthermore, applies rust-preventive coatings and finishes the appearance, delivering products that meet ISO and JIS quality standards. The main work is team operations in factories, including handling heavy steel plates, working in noisy environments, and working at heights. Wears safety equipment and leverages skill training and qualifications to provide high-quality products.

Future Outlook

While automation and robotization in the manufacturing industry progress, the demand for skilled technicians continues in manufacturing complex shapes and small-lot products. The pressure vessel and storage tank market progresses stably, and fabricators with high technical skills will continue to be needed.
