Summary

Specialized profession that precisely manufactures metal casting molds using processing machines such as cutting, EDM, and grinding based on die drawings.

Description

Mold Manufacturing Worker (Die) is an occupation that fabricates metal molds used for product forming with machining equipment. First, check the die drawings and specifications, and create machining programs using CAD/CAM. Perform rough and finish machining with machining centers, wire electrical discharge machining (EDM), and fine machining with grinding machines. After machining, undergo heat treatment and assembly, perform trial molding, measure dimensions and shapes, and repeat adjustments. Also responsible for mold maintenance inspections and repair machining, maintaining high-precision product quality.

Future Outlook

Molds are essential core components required in a wide range of industries such as automobiles, home appliances, and electronic components, so stable demand will continue. With the IoT-ization and automation leading to smart factories, the demand for highly skilled mold manufacturing workers is on an increasing trend. On the other hand, adaptation to changes due to overseas production shifts and the introduction of new technologies such as 3D printers is also required.
