Summary

A job responsible for operating, monitoring, and managing large general-purpose computers (mainframes), supporting stable system operation through batch job submission and incident response.

Description

Mainframe operators are specialists responsible for the stable operation of large general-purpose computers used in banks, insurance companies, government agencies, and other organizations. They submit and monitor batch jobs for business systems, regularly check system logs to detect anomalies early, perform prompt log analysis, restarts, and other responses when failures occur, and carry out tasks according to operation procedure manuals. In addition, managing tape devices and input/output devices, performing backups, and conducting monitoring operations in a 24-hour system with shift work including nights and holidays are common.

Future Outlook

Mainframe systems have enduring demand in finance and public sectors, maintaining a certain level of stability since full cloud migration is not progressing easily. On the other hand, with advances in automation technologies and modernization, traditional operations operators are increasingly required to acquire skills in scripts and automation tools.
