Description
Bed shiitake cultivation workers are specialists who artificially cultivate shiitake mushrooms using bed blocks (culture medium) solidified from sawdust and similar materials. After preparing, sterilizing, and inoculating (spawning) the medium, they perform growth management while maintaining appropriate temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels in greenhouses or facilities. They adjust bed turning, heating/cooling, shading, etc., to prevent pests and diseases. Once shiitake mushrooms grow, they harvest them by hand, sort by quality, wash and sterilize, package, and ship. Work may extend to early mornings or nights depending on the season and cultivation stage, and involves frequent transport of heavy bed blocks and repetitive tasks, requiring physical stamina and attention.
