Summary
Quarantine officers (physicians) are public health medical specialists who conduct health inspections and management of inbound travelers and cargo at entry/exit points such as airports and ports to prevent the invasion of infectious diseases.
Description
Quarantine officers (physicians) are responsible for checking the health status of inbound travelers at airports, ports, etc., to prevent the domestic invasion of infectious diseases, and conducting inspections and isolation measures as necessary. Under the Quarantine Act, they perform health observations and sampling (blood tests, PCR tests, etc.), provide medical responses to suspected infectious disease cases, and administer vaccinations. They also contribute to preventing zoonotic infectious diseases through inspections of imported animals and plants in animal quarantine operations. They collaborate with quarantine stations, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, local governments, and other administrative agencies on manual development and awareness activities. In emergencies, 24-hour rapid judgment and response are required, and continuous knowledge updates based on the latest domestic and international information are necessary.
