Summary

This occupation involves installing front windshields, side glass, rear glass, etc., onto the vehicle body. It covers tasks from degreasing and cleaning to applying sealant, positioning, fitting, curing, and airtightness inspection.

Description

Automotive glass fitters are specialists who assemble windshields, side glass, rear glass, etc., onto the vehicle body. The work begins with degreasing and cleaning the mating surfaces of the glass and body, followed by evenly applying sealant (adhesive). Next, using jigs or positioning tools, the glass is precisely positioned and fitted. During the curing time, it is secured to prevent movement and allowed to cure under specified conditions. Finally, leak tests and airtightness inspections are conducted to check for gaps or leaks at the joints. They must sometimes understand the unique glass shapes and adhesive properties for different vehicle models, requiring fine techniques to ensure quality and safety. Workplaces are typically automotive manufacturer assembly lines or cooperating factories, supporting line production in teams.

Future Outlook

With the recovery of automotive demand and the spread of EV and autonomous driving technologies, demand for glass in various shapes is increasing. While some tasks will be automated, the need for quality control and manual fine adjustments will maintain stable demand for skilled technicians.
