Description

Irrigation workers maintain and manage irrigation facilities such as irrigation channels, intake weirs, and sluice gates to supply the appropriate amount of water to farmland. Main duties include monitoring water levels, adjusting water volume by operating gates, regular inspections and cleaning, repairing damaged areas, removing leaks and sediment, planning and coordinating water supply to farmers, and liaising with land improvement districts and agricultural committees, among others. Much of the work is outdoors, requiring flexible responses to seasons and weather.

Future Outlook

Due to the aging of agricultural workers and the increasing importance of water resource management, demand for personnel with specialized skills is expected to remain stable or increase. The introduction of smart irrigation technologies using ICT and IoT will heighten the need for acquiring such technologies.
