Classification

Summary

In the ironmaking process of steel manufacturers, this occupation involves operating melting furnaces to heat and melt raw materials such as iron ore to produce molten iron.

Description

Ironmaking machine workers mainly operate melting furnaces such as blast furnaces or electric furnaces, charge raw materials like iron ore, coke, and limestone in appropriate proportions, heat and melt them to produce molten iron (molten steel). They monitor the temperature and chemical composition inside the furnace using instruments, and perform slag adjustment and temperature control as needed. During tapping, they operate the casting ladle to supply molten iron that meets the prescribed quality standards while ensuring safety. They routinely perform maintenance inspections and cleaning to support stable equipment operation. Since the work is mainly in high-temperature environments, safety and health management and teamwork are essential.

Future Outlook

While domestic steel demand is stable, there is a demand for technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions due to energy-saving measures and stricter environmental regulations. With the introduction of automation and unmanned technologies, it is important to pass on the skills of experienced operators and acquire new technologies.
