Internal Combustion Engine Electrical Components Development Engineer (Excluding Design)
ないねんきかんでんそうひんかいはつぎじゅつしゃ
Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
Develops, tests, and evaluates electrical components such as electronic control units, sensors, and actuators mounted on internal combustion engines in automobiles and other vehicles. Does not create design drawings, but is responsible for verifying control algorithms and performance calibration.
Description
Internal combustion engine electrical components development engineers handle the verification of control algorithms, testing and evaluation, and performance calibration for electronic control units (ECUs) for engine control, various sensors, actuators, and other electrical components mounted on automobiles and construction machinery. They build control logic using model-based development with MATLAB/Simulink, verify operation on real-time OS, and then evaluate performance through vehicle-mounted tests, emissions measurements, and durability tests. They also conduct in-vehicle network communication analysis such as CAN/LIN, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation, and quality assurance activities before mass production to provide products that comply with laws, regulations, and market requirements.
Future Outlook
With the progress of electrification and EV adoption, demand for internal combustion engine development will gradually decrease, but engine control for hybrid vehicles and technology development for emissions regulations will continue for the time being. In the future, skill transition to electric systems and software-defined vehicle (SDV) development will be required.
