Description

Hospital dietitians collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and others to assess the nutritional status of each inpatient and create optimal meal plans. They perform calculations of intake energy and nutrients, adjustments to meal forms, formulation and implementation of nutritional management plans, nutritional counseling for patients, provision of soft foods and liquid diets, and meal service operations. To ensure meal safety, they also handle hygiene management and meal service operations, participating in wards or NST (Nutrition Support Team) as members of the multidisciplinary medical team. They may also provide post-discharge nutritional follow-up or outpatient nutritional consultations.

With the progress of population aging, the importance of nutritional management in hospitals is increasing, and demand is expected to remain stable. Additionally, with the expansion of needs for nutritional counseling in home care and outpatient settings, expertise as a clinical dietitian is increasingly required.
