Classification

Summary

A job that operates grit blasting machines to remove rust, scale, and old paint films from surfaces of metals, concrete, etc., and performs base preparation for painting and coating.

Description

Grit blast workers use air blasters or wheel blast machines, etc., to jet abrasives at high pressure, removing rust, paint films, and dirt from surfaces of steel parts, concrete structures, etc. As base preparation, they create uniform roughness to enhance adhesion in subsequent processes such as painting and plating. During operations in harsh environments with dust and noise, they wear protective clothing, dust masks, earplugs, and other protective gear, thoroughly implementing safety and health management. They also give consideration to reducing environmental impact through abrasive selection, equipment pressure adjustment and maintenance, and collection/reuse of waste abrasives.

Future Outlook

Demand for rust prevention and surface treatment remains stable across diverse fields such as infrastructure maintenance, shipbuilding, construction, and plants. With advances in automation and robotization, developing skilled workers with advanced techniques is a challenge.
