Classification

Summary

This occupation involves blasting grit (abrasive material) at high pressure in the casting manufacturing process to remove scale and dirt from metal surfaces, preparing them for easy painting or finishing in subsequent processes.

Description

Grit Blasting Workers use compressed air supplied from a compressor to blast abrasive material (grit), removing scale, burrs, rust, paint films, oil stains, etc., adhered to the surface of cast products. They set the nozzles or air pressure, select the abrasive material, and after work, inspect the finish visually or with thickness measurement. They wear protective gear such as dust masks, protective clothing, and earplugs, comply with safety standards, and perform maintenance of work equipment as well as replenishment and disposal of abrasive material.

Future Outlook

Due to advances in automation and robotization, as well as strengthening of environmental regulations, there will be demand for skill inheritance by skilled workers and acquisition of robot operation and maintenance skills. The introduction of low-dust and energy-saving equipment will expand, increasing demand for related technologies.
