Summary

Occupation that quarries granite into block shapes at quarry sites and prepares it for processing and transportation.

Description

Granite quarry workers handle the quarrying of granite known as migakage stone at quarry sites. They drill holes in the rock face, drive in wedges to create fissures, and extract it in block form. As needed, they perform dynamite blasting and heavy machinery operations while thoroughly managing safety. The quarried stone is trimmed to sizes suitable for transport by truck or crane and passed to the next process. Due to the heavy outdoor labor and inherent dangers, advanced technical skills, physical stamina, and strong safety awareness are required.

Future Outlook

While the quarrying industry is experiencing a downward trend in labor demand due to automation and imported materials, demand for domestically produced granite remains strong, and the market value of skilled workers handling high-quality stone is expected to be maintained.
