Classification

Summary

A job that manufactures glass fibers by drawing molten glass into fine threads and processing it through drying, winding, and other steps.

Description

Glass fiber spinning workers melt raw glass material in a high-temperature furnace, draw the molten glass through tiny holes in a gold mold called a bushing to form fibers, then cool and dry them, and wind up fibers with a certain thickness and strength. After winding, they are processed into mats or bundles and used as insulating or reinforcing materials. Workers operate spinning machines, adjust furnace temperature and drawing speed, inspect fiber diameter and quality, perform machine maintenance checks, wear safety protective gear, and pay attention to work environment management. Production lines often operate 24 hours a day, with shift work being common. Amid advancing automation in manufacturing processes, advanced machine operation skills and quality management abilities are required.

Future Outlook

Demand for insulating materials and composite material applications remains steady, but due to advancing automation in manufacturing processes, advanced machine operation skills and quality management abilities are required. Although domestic production is showing a slight decline, growth is expected in fields such as shifts to environmentally friendly technologies and the use of recycled glass.
