Industry & Occupation

Engineering & Manufacturing

Classification

Summary

This occupation involves applying a glass-like coating agent called frit to metal or glass products and firing at high temperatures to form an enamel coating. It imparts corrosion resistance and decorative properties.

Description

Frit kiln workers are responsible for heating frit containing lead oxide, etc., to melt it into a glassy state in order to form an enamel coating on metal or glass substrates. First, they mix raw frit materials and adjust particle size, then apply primer or base treatment to the substrate. Next, they apply the frit using methods such as spraying, dipping, or rolling, and perform firing in a high-temperature furnace. By accurately managing firing temperature and time, as well as controlling the furnace atmosphere, they achieve a uniform coating without defects. Finally, they conduct appearance inspections and corrosion resistance tests to ship products that meet quality standards. The work involves high temperatures and heavy labor, and is carried out under strict safety and health management.

Future Outlook

Enamel products are expected to maintain steady demand in fields such as medical, food, and building materials due to their durability and hygiene. However, the emergence of alternative materials and the spread of automation technology will require higher skills and multi-skilling.
