Classification

Summary

A profession in the manufacturing process of clothing and textile products, where fabric is cut based on patterns and passed to the sewing process.

Description

Fabric cutters, as a preliminary process in apparel and textile manufacturing, cut fabric along patterns prepared for each product. Using cutting machines or hand tools, they efficiently cut out parts while considering fabric stretch and pattern matching. The cut parts are then passed to the sewing department for sewing and finishing processes. Knowledge of quality control, material loss reduction, and safety and hygiene is also required.

Future Outlook

Due to the overseas transfer of the sewing industry and the progress of automation, demand is flat or declining. However, cutting techniques for high-value-added products and small-lot production are expected to maintain certain demand domestically.
