Engine Design Engineer

えんじんせっけいぎじゅつしゃ

Industry & Occupation

Engineering & Manufacturing

Classification

Summary

Technical position that designs, analyzes, and improves the structure and performance of engines used in automobiles, aircraft, power generation equipment, etc.

Description

Engine design engineers design the basic structure of engines, combustion chamber shapes, cooling and lubrication systems, etc., in response to product requirements and environmental regulations, and use CAD and CAE for performance analysis and durability evaluation. In development projects, they optimize designs based on experimental data from prototype engines, and collaborate with manufacturing departments and control software development teams to promote mass production. In recent years, involvement in electrification and hybrid system development has increased.

Future Outlook

With strengthening environmental regulations and advances in electrification, the shift to high-efficiency engines for CO2 reduction and hybrid/electric drive unit design is accelerating, requiring multi-skilling and acquisition of technologies in CAE and control domains.
