Classification

Summary

A manufacturing occupation that applies enamel (porcelain enamel) to metal or glass products and fires them at high temperatures in kilns to impart corrosion resistance and decorative properties.

Description

Enamel firing workers apply enamel (glass-based glaze) to metal sheets, iron products, cookware, furniture parts, etc., and heat and fire them in tunnel kilns or batch kilns at approximately 700–850°C to form a glass-like film on the surface. The work processes consist of base material pretreatment (washing and degreasing), glaze adjustment and application (spray or dip), preliminary drying, firing, cooling, appearance inspection, deburring, and touch-ups. Management of firing temperature and furnace atmosphere directly impacts quality, requiring uniform finishes without cracks, bubbles, or unevenness. There is long-hour work in high-temperature environments and handling of heavy objects, making safety management and coordination among workers essential.

Future Outlook

While there is demand for enamel products in various fields such as automotive parts, home appliances, and interior goods, work efficiency is improving with the introduction of labor-saving and automation technologies, and skilled technicians will continue to be needed.
