Summary

A job that collects and sorts emery (garnet) and supplies it as industrial abrasives or material for water jet cutting.

Description

Emery sand collectors mainly mine and extract emery from garnet deposits or river gravel to secure raw stones. At mining sites, they operate heavy machinery such as shovels and backhoes. The extracted raw stones undergo crushing, screening, and washing, then are sorted by particle size and impurities are removed. In quality inspection, they measure particle size distribution, hardness, and impurity content to ensure they meet standards for industrial abrasives or water jet cutting materials. They also engage in machine maintenance at extraction sites and sorting facilities, safety management, and environmental conservation (dust and noise control, wastewater treatment, etc.), aiming to improve work efficiency and reduce costs. Much of the work is outdoors, requiring adaptation to weather and terrain, and coordination with work teams.

Future Outlook

Demand for industrial abrasives and water jet cutting materials is stable in construction, automotive, and aerospace fields, and an increase in demand for recycled emery due to environmental regulations is expected. On the other hand, with the introduction of automation and remote operation technologies, there is a prospect that skills will become more advanced and safety management capabilities will be further emphasized in the future.
