Electric Motor Design Engineer

でんどうきせっけいぎじゅつしゃ

Industry & Occupation

Engineering & Manufacturing

Classification

Summary

Technical position involving design, analysis, prototyping, and evaluation of electric motors (motors).

Description

Electric motor design engineers apply principles of electromagnetism to design and analyze rotating machines such as motors and generators to maximize performance. They primarily use 3D CAD and FEM (finite element method) software to conduct magnetic field analysis, thermal and vibration analysis, and proceed with optimal designs considering material selection, cooling performance, efficiency, and durability. After prototyping motors, they conduct performance tests, provide feedback on evaluation results, and improve the designs. They also collaborate with clients, in-house mechanical design, control design, and production planning departments to adjust specifications for mass production and optimize costs. In the midst of technological innovations corresponding to diverse applications such as EVs and industrial motors, a mindset of continuously learning the latest materials and technologies is required.

Future Outlook

With the expansion of the EV market and increasing demand in renewable energy fields, the demand for design engineers skilled in high-efficiency and compact lightweight electric motor technology is expected to remain high.
