Summary

A dyer is a profession that applies dyeing processes to textile products such as fabrics and clothing. They are responsible for selecting and mixing dyes, the dyeing process, fixation, finishing, and managing product quality.

Description

A dyer is a specialist who colors textile products such as clothing and interior fabrics using natural or synthetic dyes. Duties include pre-treatment of materials (washing, degreasing, etc.), dye mixing, immersion dyeing or resist printing processes while managing pH and temperature, mordanting and color fixing treatments, drying and finishing processes, and quality inspection. They use a variety of processes and techniques, from traditional hand-dyeing craftsmanship to mass production using factory dyeing machines. Knowledge of chemical handling and equipment management for safety and hygiene, as well as color theory and fiber properties, is also required.

Future Outlook

With growing attention to preserving traditional crafts and sustainable dyeing technologies, demand for hand-dyeing and environmentally friendly dyeing is expected to expand. On the other hand, due to overseas relocation and automation advancements, mass production dyeing factories are expected to decline.
